Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Electric brakes on boat trailer?

I have a dual axle trailer that is in very good shape but the brakes and surge actuator need to be replaced, also I have only brakes on front axle, local laws require brakes on all axles if over 2800 pounds or if under 2800 pounds but more than half of the net weight of the tow vehicule.

I have been doing some research and have come down to a few options, first is to go disc on both axles with new actuator, second is electric drum brakes, it seems that there are now electric drum brakes that are designed for marine application, I boat in fresh water.

My tow vehicule is already equipped with electric brake control.

Has anyone had any experience with electric brakes on a boat trailer? Or other suggestions.

Thanks

Marc-B

I don't have brakes on my current trailer but had electric disc brakes on my last one. I'll take the electric brake system any day over surge brakes.
