I am considering the purchase of a 150 Montauk and am trying to decide if I should get the boat with a full bow rail, split bow rail, or no bow rail.

I will be using the boat primarily in coastal bays (to cruise and fish) and occasionally fishing the kelp beds just outside the bay entrances.

I would appreciate any input on the pros and cons of bow rails for this style boat.

Thanks.

I would get the rail system fore and aft of the center console. It leaves you with a nice "walk through" with hand support on either side, an area to deploy a ladder, nice tall rails for security, as well as a place to mount rod holders, downriggers, etc...

Absolutely get the FULL bow and "STD" side rails. The boat is small enough that these rails will get you some extra security and spots for mounting hardware, hang fenders, live nets, etc.
I think it is a must have option. Please note that if you have a BW supplied bimini (sun) top and it is down (laying forward) your step thru between the rail a mid ships will be slightly obstructed as it is when employed as you then have to step thru the triangle created by the SS posts. No problem for my Admiral a slight problem for my 6ft plus heavy frame. (see pics on personal page for what I'm talking about)
I enter the boat always from the back or step over the bow railing.
Love the bow railing and it has never interfered with fishing.

Thanks for the input, Garris and E-J.

I think I will get the bow rail.
