Been awhile since my last post, but I have been busy getting the boat on the water. Happy to say I am a proud owner of a 1996 17 Outrage. Just some minor repairs but runs great...until today.

The steering locked up on me and after pulling the cable from the helm it it apparent that cable needs to be replaced as I can not move the cable at all. With the cable out the helm turns freely and the motor moves left and right with just one finger.

My question is ... do i have to pull the engine off the get the cable off the engine? I tried and tried but cant seem to get the cable out from the engine (although it does move freely). Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Not familiar with a 17 Outrage, but on a Classic 15, I had to take out 3 of the 4 mounting bolts leaving one on the port side. Loosen the remaining bolt. This allows the motor to be tilted counter clockwise (if standing at the rear looking forward). This raises starboard side at an upwards angle so the cable will clear the transom.
