In Texas lights are required, day or night if your boat is 16' or bigger.
I once got a 150 dollar citation from a Texas game warden for not having a stern light on my 16' aluminum jon boat. It was broad daylight and I argued the point with him but he insisted if the boat is 16' lights are required day or night. Long story short I had to pay the citation. I know you are not in Texas but some of you Texans might not know this.
