Phil,
One of the nice things about the Armstrong Bracket is that it displaces the motor set back weight over the full width of the transom holding the motor with bottom support. The manufacturer advertises flotation but, who knows. It is kinda an after market Whaler Drive. I had a choice to install an Armstrong Bracket on my 22ft 1979 Revenge or go with a jack plate. I went with the jack plate and picked up additional issues I am dealing with. The Armstrong Bracket (which was part of an inboard conversion to outboard on a 1981 21ft Regal) was solid. It may dip the transom but I would not condemn the system until I see it in the water. It is a well constructed piece of hardware and if it appears large in the photos it may very well be matching the bottom lines of the boat. I semi wish I scrounged the bracket from my parts boat but, my resale of my parts boat is financing my tweaks for my keeper.
