Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Is this a good deal?

I apologize if this type of question is discouraged but I'm desperate for some advice from the more experienced.

I have an opportunity to buy a 1998 Ventura 20 with a 1998 mercury 175 efi (this would be my second boat but my first Whaler).
The hull is in great shape and the engine has been looked over by a marine mechanic (good compression, no water in oil, etc). My wife and I really love the design (and the fact it's a Whaler) and it seemed to run great at all rpms when we took it out on the lake.

My question is this: the seller is asking $12,000 and I'm struggling to determine if this is high, low, or about right.

I know this is subjective but can anyone help me out even if it's just an opinion?

Thanks.

Depending on what shape it's in, the price seems inline with what the market is asking. Assuming you are comfortable with the shape of the engine and the boat fits your needs. I would make sure there are no soft spots in the deck and all the equipment is in working order.

Does it include a trailer?
Electronics?
Cushions?
Bimini?
Fenders/dock lines?
Anchor?

Shop boattrader.com;yachtworld.com and knock off a few grand if a dealer listing.

Thanks for your reply.

Tandem trailer with new tires (4 week old tires with receipts)
Fish finder
Stereo with CD player
Cushions in good condition (no rips/tears)
Bimini
Anchor

It's a private seller. Has paperwork from local marina mechanic that the engine exhibits no issues or nothing in need of repair (of course I'd ask my own mechanic to check it out as well).
