John, good call. Match the seals once you get the kit or see if they sell the kit without the front threaded coupling that holds the rod in. I have an array of "pin tools" that never seem to be the right size for removing that coupling. I purchased a couple of pipe wrenches with chain instead of jaws for working with rams. Sometimes the standard pipe wrench would oblong the coupling and ruin it. The chain wrench, though clumsy, spreads the force and keep the shape intact. Good luck. Once apart you can see what is going on in there. If the inner "o" rings still pliable, chances are the pump/valve is good. Take some of the old oil and place it on some toilet paper it will tell you how clean it is. Gentle with the polishing. Do not take too much off. Best always and good luck.
