Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: water level relative to drain tubes on Montauk

The attached link shows the stern of my new to me 1988 Montauk 17 in the water. The question I have is: how does the water level look on the stern/transom? You can see the water just touches the drain tubes. A little bit of water percolates in and out of the splash well. Is this more or less typical, or as expected? Thanks, Chris

Looks like quite a bit of weight in the stern with the trolling motor and tanks. I would say normal due to the extra stern weight.

What is the weight of your engine? What is the weight of your kicker motor? What is the weight of the diving equipment in the stern of your boat? Any batteries or gas tanks in the stern?

Johnson 90 = 300 lbs
Mercury 5 = 57 lbs
No batteries or gas tanks on the stern.

The scuba cylinders behind the RPS are about 40 lbs. There is about 20 gallons of gas in the tank under the RPS. There is a 40 lb scuba scooter adjacent to the RPS.

With a Yamaha 9hp, Mecury 90hp and battery mine sits about the same. With me in the back they're under.

Also, I believe your 90hp motor weighs more than 300.

If you can move some weight forward, such as the scuba tanks, it could be beneficial. A little more height won't hurt.

The weight on the motor came from the NADA guide spec for the model and year. Don't know how accurate it is.

Appreciate the feedback so far.

My motivation for asking about the water level is wanting to make sure there is no obvious problem, like water in the transom.
