I have a few nicks in the hull of my 1987 Revenge just below the rub rail. When I patch it the color is not going to match as my hull is an off white. I was told Boston Whaler sells repair kits that match your hull by referencing your hull SS number. Is this correct? Or is there another way to get a close match?

You most likely have "Whaler Tan"

Spectrum has small kits that work well - mix it right, work fast and it's all about the wet/color sanding and buff & wax (by hand) that give you the best match/blend with your existing gel coat.

Gel coat changes color with age so it's possible the "factory match" from spectrum will not be a perfect match. If you truly want a perfect match contact Minicraft of Florida who has a gel coat matching service.

I used the Sprectrum patch kit on my 1998 Dauntless 15 last year and the color was dead on (see my personal page for the results). The shelf life of the Spectrum products is stated to be "6 months" and they mean it. Went back recently and the gel coat was hard as rock. That said, the next time I need to patch Spectrum will get the call.

Your boat is 16 years old but at 27 years old it's less likely to match. At 38 years old the Spectrum (confirmed with Boston Whaler) factory matched desert tan was not a perfect match with my 1976 Sport 15. If you look at the pictures of the inside of the transom on my personal page you can see this. It's not so different that it's objectionable but its just not a perfect match.

For owners of older boats, if you find the Spectrum factory matched color isn't a perfect match and you desire a perfect match Minicraft is an option.

Point well taken. Nice looking boat, wlagarde.

Yes - Minicraft is great as well..they also mix per order.

It's never a "perfect match" - You would have to shoot the entire boat, which is why you have to color/wet sand when patching, then buff & wax the patch area & the rest of the boat. It all fades again after a season in the sun.

Your boat is really nice too. Sometimes I wish I had a little more room. At some point our family of 5 will outgrow it and we will move up in size...
