I just finished a 1973 16 footer. I used a variable speed buffer and two different compounds. The first step was on lower speed using a one step compound made by meguiars… the second step was to speed the buffer up and use a yellow wax.
This boat was so bad you could get the white dust on your fingers when you wiped across it. I did not wet sand the boat as others will say is a must. I have pictures I can send of the before and after if you like just shoot me a e mail.
As for the stains it depends on what they are.. start with hull cleaner or rust stain remover… A lot of us like Wink rust remover for stains. If it requires more scrubbing Bar keepers friend is good and gives a little scrubbing action.
