Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: What to install under Moeller Fuel Tank

After some debate, I recently purchased one of those 22 Gallon Gray Moeller fuel tanks for my 1989 Boston Whaler Montauk 170. Question is this... what, if anything should I place UNDER the tank? I spoke to Sue and she recommended mats but they weren't even close, size wise. I've overthought just about everything on this little boat. Am I overthinking the tank? Do they just get strapped right to the deck?

Btw. FWIW. I have used several of the Whaler Central sponsors and they have been GREAT to deal with. That is NOT always the case with site sponsors. I look forward to many years of working with these fine folks.

Thanks in advance.

I installed that tank on my 1977 Montauk last spring, and used the Dri-Deck snap together panels under it. I've been happy with the setup since.

The panels allow for easy cleaning under the tank area, and gave a little extra clearance where the fuel line goes into the tunnel, but I'd still recommend strapping the tank down. Dri-Deck is designed to be non-slip, but I'm sure under the wrong conditions the tank could still move around.
