my boat came with the bracket to attack steering to an old johnson 90 it had on it.

i am getting a 2001 mercury 60 hp 2 stroke, and want to get simple teleflex NFB steering. without a bracket.

the sterring with that bracket sucked, since it was off center, maybe it was how it was installed, but i could barely get turns out of it in one direction, i can't remember which side, but it was probably opposite the side it was isnrtalled on.

sorry for erros. an typo's.

also i meausred out the old cable 13 feet long from center console helm, to under the deck, to the motor, so i assume another 13 foot long cable will do since there was some play in the cable last time.

thanks.

Yes, there are better ways for 13' models.
Here is one:

However, your title of this thread says you have a 16' 7" model.
You do not need anything on the 16/17 models.

A 13' cable does not seem long enough for your boat but you don't tell us what console you have so we don't know.
A Montauk takes a 17' or 18' steering cable.

its a custom center console, id say its not a whaler CC because ive not seen it on any pictures here for different models, it doesn't have sweet wood like the oldies, an doesnt have that whaler quality IMO, but it has that, i will serve the purpose of getting you to the fishing grounds and back. which coincidentally fits with my budget as well. as in i already own it.

i prefer an older console, or remake, but i don't have the $$.

i have the current console just sitting above the hole where i pass the wires/gas lines from the tunnel. it was actually about an inch of that hole exposed just forward of the console, that being said, my steering previously used was measured today after i posted this i found it, from the helm to the other side it was 14 feet.

and thanks Joe glad to know i dont need some stupid braket for the steering.
