I am looking for the dimensions of the console that came in the 2003 Montauk 170 models. I was hoping some one out there has them, or would be willing to measure thiers for me. I spoke with Sue at Twin Cities Marine She sent me pictures, but does not have dimensions. I am thinking about putting this console into my 1984 20' outrage. The current OEM console just doesnt fit my needs. Any input would be great. The console is still available complete from Whaler. Thanks

Unless a person is 5'0" tall, the first console used on the 170 Montauks was ridicualously low, and uncomfortable to use when standing becasue of the low height of the wheel and engine control. As far as I'm concerned, it made the new Montauk a boat for kids. When I first saw how short it was, I was amazed that Whaler would have made such a mistake.
Beginning with the 2007 model year boats, they designed a new, taller console for the boat.
So to answer your question, I would not even consider a 2003 Montauk console for a boat as large as an Outrage 20. It will look silly in the boat, and give you poor control of the boat in my opinion.
I also think those consoles were designed to fit a special raised area in the boat floor. It may not work on a flat floor surface.

The current console is the same console that was put in the early 17' Montauks, its way to small for my outrage , it would be a better fit in my 1968 Currituck. My issue is not only with the size but layout, impossible to read gauge cluster etc..thanks for the input

Joe, Thanks for the info, I do indeed have the 1983 -1985 version. Its not the size , it really the layout and helm position. I use the boat only for fishing so a bigger is better approach is not for me. It comes down to ergonomics as well as fit. Thank you again for the links and information. Its an idea I have and was curious as to what other members have done or thought
