I have also restored the original Mat-Tac by *very carefully* peeling it off with a heat gun and then sticking it to a piece of waxed paper, smoothing it flat and cleaning and applying some 303 Aerospace Protectant.

After restoring the console shell I re-adhered the Mat-Tac with some 3M 30NF contact cement I had, and which is considerably stronger than the original adhesive on the Mat-Tac. That console, on a 1988 Montauk, is still going strong five years later.
