Mike, I don't know how related this is or not but my father just picked up a 62 Corvette with really nasty paint on it. When we took it to the body shop the guy told me the best way to get the paint off is using the DA sander. He said you can go heavy at first until you get to the final layer than care and finesse will get you the rest of the way. He did mention that it would be bad to take of the gelcoat. Of course this is a Corvette and not a boat but I thought the DA advise was relevant.
