Last year I bought an 1988 Sport 13'. The guy I bought it from was a little bit of a hack. This year I took the interior apart and redid the varnish. I think there are bits and pieces of this and that in there so my question is..... I have this stainless side rail that comes down the side and back behind the aft bench. I'm ok with the side mounts as they are but, the way this guy had the back mounted under the back bench can't be right. Any ideas how this was originally mounted in the back? There is a pic of the rail on the page with the 13's on this site, it is a u shaped rail. Thanks for your help.

The seat back sat in front of the rail and had braces that screwed into the railing. It is/was kind of uncomfortable. We modified ours by taking the braces off and using some "U" shaped clamps and raising the back up some.

I should add that the aft bench does not have a back. Therefore I had these poles that were bent and screwed to the underside of the bench. Not stable. I will try to add a pic to you can see what I am working with. Thanks for any help. I want to stay as close as possible to factory...... If I can help it.

Here is a photo of a 1987 Super Sport 13' from the "Whaler Models and Info" link on the left sidebar.

The railing is completely different than you describe.

Are you sure you don't have a Sport 13' ??
Some of the Sport models had an option for wrap around seat rail.

Could be a sport, hull BWC?1841K788. Trying to load photos. Thinking about just taking the thing off but I actually like the side rails and use them. Or just hacking off the back.

There are several different types of side rails or rails.

The Sport came without any rails at all but rails were optional.

1. Side Rails
2. Wrap around Side Rails with seat back

There are many photos of just the Side Rails in the members personal pages.
I looked for some that had the Wrap around Side Rails and seat back but all I could find is this version that came standard on the Sourpuss model.

Someone may have modified the Side Rails that you have and that is why you are having difficulty in finding something that matches.

Let us know more about what you have.

Wow thanks for the link. That is the rail I have and I hate to say it but it appears to have the same curved bars on the back that I guess anchor up underneath the back bench. Kind of a bummer mine is not stable and bent from being pushed down. Oh well I guess I will make the best of it. Still seems flimsy. Thanks.

Glad you recognize the railing.

Now it appears that you have a 1988 Sport 13' with the optional wrap around rear seat railing.
