I have a 1970 13' whaler with a plastic/nylon steering wheel. Is there any trick in taking it off? I took the nut off but the steering wheel won't budge? Also I have a 1989 McKee Craft with a nice stainless wheel that I would like to swap, but it appears that the centers are different diameters. Are there different size steering wheels for different boats? the boats are about the same size.
Thanx for any help
Doug

Douglas, some good suggestions on a recent discussion on Steering Wheel Removal. Look on left side for Discussion Areas under Navigation on the Home Page. Then go to the Parts discussion area and look for jerryj1969's question on Steering Wheel Removal on 08/05/10. This is a copy of the link but I don't know if you can access directly: http://www.whalercentral.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=10636.
Good luck and let us know what worked.

Most helms are the same size but anything is possible. As for removing it, you may need to go to a parts store and rent a steering wheel puller if it's really stuck. Most that i've ever removed, I was able to snatch off. A good swift jerk will usually pop them off.

Thanx for all the suggestions. The link worked fine. Still not sure if the shafts are the same size.
