Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 1982 Montauk Fuel Tank Replacement

Time has come for me to replace the old Tempo tanks I have beneath the RPS. I have a 12 and 6 gallon tank that sit on those rubber mats beneath the RPS. I know this issue has been discussed earlier on here, but I don't see any specific conclusion as to a 'best' answer.

It appears Moeller makes 2 12 gallon tanks... one is too wide to fit 2 below the seats and the other too high to put below the RPS without raising it. The 9 gallon models look too long to fit a pair beneath the RPS.

I've looked at the 15 and 26 gallon tanks... going to s single tank. But then I'm concerned about complications with the fuel line coming up through the factory opening under the RPS. I'd rather not drill a new hole.

So... that's my quandry. I'd appreciate any input others can offer. Thanks in advance... Mike

The best solution is a pair of aluminum 12 gallon tanks from MIRAX.

Mike;

I just replaced my old tank with the new Moeller 24 galllon white tank. It fits perfectly under the RPS without having to rasie it, or drill a new hole to feed the fuel line in to the tunnel. Take a look here;

Hi mike,

Is it possible to have some pictures and measurment of what you've done with the moeller 24 gal.
I have a 1987 newport 17" with, apparently, exactly the same rps than montauk 17", and it appear that the 24 gal moeller didn't fit under the seat.
I live in france and have a lot of difficulty to get information and products for boston, any advices or information for me?
Thks

Tomduv,

Assuming you are actually referring to dprice's 24 gallon tank, here are images of the Newer Moeller 24 gallon tank design to fit under a Whaler RPS.

Here is an image if installed on a Montauk.
