Hi all,
I am looking for recommendations for a swim ladder for my 15' 1977 Whaler sport. I'd rather avoid a swim platform and stick solely to a ladder, if possible. Has anyone had success in installing a swim ladder, or a creative alternative?

Not much space to install a permanent ladder on the transom. anywhere else complicates launching/retrieving or tieing up to a dock. A portable ladder that hangs over the gunnels would be my choice for easy boarding from the water. I have seen one that folds in the center vertically which would take less space when stored aboard.
An alternative is a step on the transom. I would consider a stainless steel folding permanently mounted step. One step would do the job depending on the individuals ability. The outboard lower unit could be a handy first step.

After getting too old to climb up the outboard on my boat I opted for the portable ladder. Ladies are also very appreciative (lol). Storage may be a challenge on a 15. Mine fit under the gunnel by the rod holders.

Thank you all - these are really helpful suggestions. I was looking at a 'stirrup step' that ties into the cleat, but I think the angle would still push you under the boat, rather than up and over the side. The portable one looks like the best option to try first. Thanks so much

Also keep in mind you need a hand hold when climbing out. This is where the platform is nice for a 15'.
