I was hoping for an opinion. I just purchased a 1996 22 foot Outrage commercial hull without power. I plan to power it with a new motor this month. After doing research and shopping, the Evinrude E Tech 200 HO is getting the slight nod over the 225 Yamaha 4 stroke. Can anyone report on any experience with either and will the 200 Evinrude be enough the approach the 45 to 47 mph top speed. Thanks for any feedback.

In case you didn't know, the civilian version, Outrage 22 was rated at at a max of 240hp. Given the added weight of the Guardian/Raider 22, I would suggest you get close to 240hp to reach the desired speeds.

Have you considered a E-TEC 250? Same weight.

I have the civilian version of that hull (1984 Outrage 22). I have twin 115's on mine. I doubt you will hit those speeds with a 200.

I'll echo the comments that 200 HP seems underpowered for this hull.

If the transom is notched for twins, you could mount two counter-rotating Merc 115 Fourstrokes likely for less money than the single Evinrude 200 HO. The Mercs are strong engines for their rating, so you would have around 250 HP.

Thank you, I have considered the E Tech 250, but, as you may know the max HP is 240 on the plate. The boat was originally set up with a 200 Yamaha 2 stroke back when new. But, I was never aboard. I will assume that the 250 would be the more optimal was to pursue. Thanks again.

Counter rotating Merc's !! never gave that a thought. I will check that option as well. Thank you.

I have a 22' cuddy 1989 with a 2-stroke Yamaha 200. It is a good power option but with the extra weight I would probably go up in power. Twins would not be my choice for the drag and extra cost of maintenance.

I own a 1984 Outrage Cuddy 22 with early Optimax 225 (no bottom paint, no T-Top) This engine has a 3.0 L displacement. It will reach 45mph on any day, and I have seen 46. Given the E-TEC is newer technology and larger displacement, I would expect better performance.

250hp is what you want.

I have owned four whaler 22 guardians and they like big hp and little stern weight.

The last few I had and still own had a yamaha f300 and f350 on a whaler drive. F300 exceeds hp rating of hull but some had transom options that supported more weight/higher hp.
