I have disassembled my Montauk for restoration & have a couple questions for those who have done similar work:
1. How did you flip the hull over for bottom work? I am on the trailer right now. I assume a bunch of motivated guys?
2. My foremost rail station on the bow rail will not come off. (The one above the norman post) the Whaler diagram says these are screwed into an aluminum block? I'd imagine the stainless screws are corroded into the aluminum? I have it sitting with PB blaster penetrating fluid right now, thought they are not budging.
3. Does anyone know a re-chromer for stantions, bow/stern eyes, etc? I know I can order most parts from Specialty but wanted to see if I can get the originals re-plated.
Well I answered question #1 below. It takes about 5 motivated guys to flip over the 17' hull. Currently inverted and prepping for barrier coat in the coming days.
Appreciate if anyone has information on items #2 & 3 below.
Do not buy the fittings from Specialty marine. they are not the same as the original. I had the fittings on my 1982 Outrage 18 re-plated when I started fixing her last year. These people did a great job.
