Thinking about buying a new or used 17' or 19' Montauk or perhaps an 18' Grady White Fisherman.
The boat will be primarily used for near shore surfing/diving trips around the south & south east coasts of Oahu, Hawaii.
As you may know, Hawaii almost always has brisk trade winds which make for choppy conditions even as close as 1 mile offshore, in addition, during the summer months, we routinely get high surf in the 10-12' range, sometimes up to 20' in harbor entrances.
The farthest I'd plan to go would be 30 miles roundtrip on any day, probably maximum 2 miles offshore with a maximum of 3 adults on board.
Borrowing this thread as I have a similar question about seaworthiness,
Is it a big difference between Outrage V-hull and Outrage II.
Looking att V-20 and a Outrage II 17' -1995 (big difference in size-I know) or maybe the first Outrage 17'-19'
Not many used Whalers to choose between in Scandinavia unfortunatly :(
Thanks for the replies, test drove the 190 Outrage and the 180 GW, both are excellent boats.
Ended up buying the Grady White, ride was better in choppy conditions and the GW had a few options the Outrage didn't offer - built in cooler & fresh water shower.
