What color stain for interior wood

Member Posts: 27 Comments: 0 Joined: 03/14/17	I have a 1975 Boston whaler 13 sport and I'm redoing the wood and I want to have some suggestions on what color stain I should get. I want to do like a dark brown but not too dark.(If that makes sense) Im doing black bottom paint so I want like a darker stain.

Member Posts: 21 Comments: 0 Joined: 02/25/07	I've redone the wood on several classic Whalers and have never used stain. I just brought the old wood down clean wood through sanding, then applied varnish. After 5-7 coats, the wood takes on a nice golden hue.

Member Posts: 31 Comments: 1 Joined: 06/15/15	I used stain as P.O. had stained the wood with it before the last varnish. I was taking the seats down to bare wood and top of console, however, the rest of consul I just roughed up and added more varnish. I like the way it turned out and helped mask some of the dark spots in the wood. I would have skipped it but was the best way to match my wood. BlueSmoke attached the following image: [43.25Kb]
