I am restoring my 13 foot Boston whaler sport and I am buying a new steering wheel and I can't get the 3 stud thing off, I can't put a new wheel on does anyone have a suggestion how I can get it off? ( I would show a picture but every time I try to upload it says invalid attachment)
Is this a pulley steering system or a newer cable steering type system? I have experience with cable steering and I am unsure about what you mean by "3 stud thing"? On a cable steering system a steering wheel or pulley puller is required to remove the wheel if the wheel has been on there for any extended period of time. I agree that you tube is a great place to see the process.

I have the piston steering, do you have any ideas for that
The best advice is to check out YouTube. I did this last year, and I am pretty handy, but I know I removed the old wheel exactly backward (it was so comical that it stands out...). The process isn't difficult, but there are enough quirks that it's useful to see someone do it properly first. I think the vast majority of pinion-type wheels work the same, so the lessons learned on YouTube should be easily applied to yours.
