2005 Conquest 255 stored on dock (in water)

I'm in the process of installing some new electronics and had to drill a 33mm hole in the hull to install the transducer. With the boat on the hard stand I drilled into the "putty / transducer patch" on the port side from underneath the boat. As the hole saw penetrated the outer hull skin water came out of the hole. I grabbed a bucket as I wanted to see exactly how much would drain out. I completed the hole and over the course of the day about 2L of foul smelling water drained out. The dripping has stopped to the odd drop. Of course we all want our BW's to be bone dry but this is my first Boston and it spends it's life in the water so I'm not sure what is generally to be expected when drilling into an 11 year old Whaler?

Do check all the through hull drains and see if there is a failure. On my 1979 22' Revenge my brass tubes looked ok but were rusting/failing from the outside (foam side) in. I would weigh the boat if possible and determine the extent of the water intrusion. A high end moisture meter would also help. It may tell you if the breech was area specific. Was the boat surveyed?

Seafari,

Can you please explain/elaborate on "putty / transducer patch" on the port side? Both transducer locations (thru-hull or otherwise) appear to be on the starboard side…

Thanks for the replies.

Boat was not surveyed for water ingress, just a visual inspection.

There are two solid (putty filled) through hull patches, one on port and one on stbd side. These "patches" are there for through hull fittings to be installed either as factory options or retrofit. When I drilled the 35mm core there was the outer fibreglass skin, then some plywood (one thin sheet) and then the hard material (putty) about 40mm thick until the inside skin. The transducer area I believe is same material as rest of the "patch" but merely (reserved) for standard transducer placement.

Update: Went to carry on working on tdr install and all good. No more water when I drilled the hole for the anti-rotation bolt in the front of the transducer fairing.
