Gas Line Extension Allowed??

Member Personal Page Posts: 166 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/12/15	Hey Everyone: My Whaler, a 2015 150 Super Sport, came with the standard 6.5 Gallon Moeller portable gas tank. I have considered several options and am going to add a Moeller 3.5 Gallon portable gas tank as a backup. To this I will add the correct Mercury two-prong male connector. MY QUESTION: Can I make an "extension" gas line to reach from where the existing tank is (under the helmsman's seat) to the other side of the boat? What is the right way to do this? a) a short length of tubing with two two-prong connectors, male & female, or b) the tube coming straight outta the tank, with appropriate NPT fitting, with the male two-prong connector on the other end, or c) neither ... I am playing with fire and should let a professional marine mechanic do this. I'd like to secure the small gas tank in that location, with a cleat to ride on, and a strap to hold it down (just like the factory tank). The distance needing to be covered is about 30", depending on orientation of the tank and location of the new tank's NPT outlet. I'm pretty handy and have every tool. Any advice welcomed. Separate line from small tank to the motor with the proper connections and primer bulb. ----- or ----- Run the line with a primer bulb from the tank to a new 2 way valve. Using this method will only require you to switch the valve while underway. Either way it's a DIY.

Member Personal Page Posts: 166 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/12/15	Hey Phil: can you take this thread all the way out? If I had just looked at my existing setup, I had all the answers right there. It is a NPT Fitting on the tank, barbed, for hose; followed by the fuel demand valve, followed by more hose, terminating in a female two prong. All that is different in my new setup will be a longer hose. I am duplicating the existing setup entirely, including the demand valve, which is important given these new expanding/contracting fuel tanks.
