Hi, I just bought a 27' FC 1987 Whaler Apparently the gas gauge doesn't work. Can anyone tell me how many gallons of gas (estimete) it would take to go 30 nautical miles with two Johnson 2 stroke 200hp motors ? I realize it would be an estimate. I don't know the weight of the boat yet. Does anyone out there own the same type that can tell me what it weighs? The boat is in the Caribbean.
Those are REALLY thirsty beasts, so I would guess at least 30 gallons, having run similar but slightly newer 150 hp beasts on a 23 WA and achieving about 1.5 mpg. I believe those may be cross flows and not loopers and will get slightly worse mileage than my old 150 loopers with the 3 2-barrel carbs.
The newer single Honda 250 gets right around 3 mpg lightly loaded, so when you repower, I would expect mileage to double with modern fuel injected engines.
The Full Cabin model appears to have 170 gallon fuel tank and Weighs 5235 lbs.
Thanks so much for the link. The man who sold it to me said it has one 150 gallon tank and two 75 gallon tanks. How can I know for sure without having to fill them up?
Sorry for the ignorance in this subject since i am a beginner.
