I just purchased a 2012 Super Sport 130. I plan to use the boat to explore the lakes and fish in the Western Upper Peninsula of MI. The boat has the stock 40 HP Merc on it but the former owner added a lot of gadgets including a larger fuel tank and a canopy. When I test drove the boat I was surprised that it labored to plane a little and seemed pretty slow for such a small boat (Granted there we 2 full grown men and 2 kids aboard). If I change the prop out to the current stock 4 blade that comes on these boats now will it help? Also, how slow will this boat go in idle? Can you troll at that speed or do most people install a trolling motor? Mine has rails and it would require a lot of modification to add a bow mount motor, and I am also concerned about adding even more weight in the form of batteries. Any advice that anyone has on this boat will be gladly appreciated. I am excited to finally own a Whaler because I have wanted one since I was a kid.

Welcome aboard WhalerCentral and congratulations on your first Whaler.

What prop do you have on the boat now?
Diameter x Pitch ?
Prop model and number?

What are the WOT RPM's?
Do you have a tachometer?

What hole is the motor mounted in?

What is your top speed now?

A little more info will help others here help you.

My apologies. I do not know the answer to your question and the boat is at my lake house so I can't go look. With that said, my understanding is that everything is stock as the boat was delivered. I know for sure the 3 blade prop in the motor is the stock prop. Not sure about the mounting holes.

Here is the factory performance report.

http://www.bostonwhaler.com/boat_grap...2518PM.pdf

Note the performance is based on a bare bones boat, no gear, 6 gal of fuel etc.

Note the shallow acceleration curve that increases nominally after 3000 rpms.

I would test your boat against these specs with the same weight summary.
