Need advice on just purchased 130 Sport 2005, with the Mercury 40 hp 4 stroke EFI.

I am handcuffed by my parking spot on property. This fits perfect, the 15' would be very tight.

I pulled the trigger on a good deal, for Hawaii at least. I need advice on any way to outfit it for in-shore trolling and hopefully if anyone has done it, poling around our flats.

It would be mostly for me, sometimes one friend. On some rare occasions, wife and 4 year old son. I will be smart and keep to the protected bays, lagoons and if safe conditions, 1-2 miles from shore.

Has anyone used these to float over flats? Here in Hawaii there are some coral heads that can pop up.

What are your thoughts on trolling the insides with the amount of people I have coming with me?

How to make the boat safer? Do I need a bilge?, do I need fuel/water filter, etc.

Worried about the freeboard with kid, stability, etc.

I will buy an epirb, have short wave, all safety basics. Some here in Hawaii will say its overkill since I'll be able to see cars on the street and be only less than mile from shore and amongst busy boating area.

Also, any thoughts on the 2005 sport and its hull compared to the older classics. is this one a smoother ride?

Thanks to you all.

There is very limited space onboard so think through how you rig the boat.

Having everyone wear a PDF and having a handheld VHF attached to your PDF improves your safety.

You do not need a bilge pump. Run with the plug in and then pull it when on a plane to drain.

In using portable tanks with inshore fuel a separator is not necessary.

The modern 130 has a different hull design and is much heavier so it has a better ride.

The hull is gelcoat and will be damaged by coral, and will damage the coral too. Avoid this.

I have a 130 as well. I would recommend adding a manual hand bilge pump. It's good for emergency or getting water out without going on plane.
