Newbie looking for help - Trolling Motor

Will a 52" 55# - 12v SW Riptide Minn Kota be sufficient for this hull or do I need a 24v system. I will use a quick disconnect base. How do I mount to the glass hull. How do I anchor in the glass? I'm really new to this. Thanks for having me on the site. I've built ships for 37 years but no little about glass. Thanks in advance. Member Personal Page Posts: 328 Comments: 1 Joined: 09/08/09	I installed the 55 12v and it is plenty strong. The added weight of a 24v system isn't worth it to me in my opinion. I use mine to troll for fish and it works great. In a huge ocean current it might take a while to get home, but it works decent as a backup. I carefully installed the puck on the bow under my rails. I used 4 screws and screwed right into it without needing any additional backing. Other members have posted pics of this as well. Depending on what you want this motor to do, I think you will be just fine with it. Plus it is always nice to have a backup. One will push my boat around 4-5 mph in smooth water. 1984 Montauk

My intention for a trolling motor is to troll the flying the birds or looking for red's on the shoreline. Nothing else. What thrust motor do you have and length of shaft? What are you calling the puck? I assume you've drill pilot holes and fill with a resien or two marine part epoxy? The punk would go right into the small non skid area on the bow. Is this what you drill into? Thanks so much!

Member Personal Page Posts: 118 Comments: 0 Joined: 01/15/11	The 55 will be plenty. 12 volt will run for most of the day just working the banks. There are many ways to mount a trolling motor to a Montauk. I wanted mine mounted on the center line of the boat and not have any hanging over the side. So had to make a stainless steel plate (aluminum would work) and have a hole patched. The back bolt has a backing plate and a lot of 5200. I have a quick connect on the left side of the console just behind the cooler. The battery is in the console. We fish the creeks all over the Charleston SC area. The Montauk is perfect for that.
