Need to repair a small ding at the front bottom part of my whaler that got damaged while hauling it from Virginia to Key Largo. What is the process for repairing and then gel coating?

Thank you Key-z

I would use search for this info.
Also read the label of any products before purchase and before use.
There are so many levels of these projects that covering them in a post is difficult to impossible.
Good Luck!

If it is not easily viewable, I use Marine Tex patch repair in white. It is a two part mix and does not need to be covered with gelcoat. It is waterproof.

To get a smooth finish, I use a plastic putty knife and then cover with plastic wrap to get out the ridges.

Phil T, what do you recommend if the repair is in a conspicuous location? Thanks.

I have used Spectrum Gelcoat Patch kit in Desert Tan for my Montauk and Outrage 17 since I am not adept with fiberglass/gelcoat.

There are different colors for the various Whaler years.

There are MANY who say it is not a good match and one should do a manual color match.

In my case it was 8 small holes on the top of the RPS and the color was only off a bit. No one but me noticed.

I just used the $30 west marine gel coat repair kit to fill small hole outside my anchor hatch. It comes with 3 colors to mix but I could not get very close to the dessert tan. way to difficult with just a novice eye. It comes with a plastic sheet similar to a phone screen protector, this was nice to use after you applied the gel as it makes it supper smooth. product was easy and I am happy with repair (except the color). Ive used marine text a bunch before and it is supper strong but so hard its tought to sand without scratching around it or using a rotary tool. you can also get the color closer w gel coat.

Thanks for the information. I've been busy cleaning up my outrage in order to list it locally and on Craigslist.
I just have a question. Can I use marine Tex to patch and after sanding apply gel coat?

Thanks,
key-z
