Hey folks I was hoping for some help on this one - I recently purchased a 1972 13' Standard (I think) - tiller steering. I purchased from the original owner that had been garage kept for years. Everything on the boat is original and FLAWLESS - including the 1972 Mercury 20hp Thunderbolt that runs like a top. The last thing I need is another whaler in the yard but this was just too good to pass up! I am considering selling her but don't want her to fall into the hands of someone that wont appreciate her

Could anyone give me some more info on this model year other than the change in paint color & 20" transom?? There don't seem to be too many 1972's around for some reason? What is the boat worth? Does the original engine / boat trailer / manual(s) etc increase the value?? I am an old soul so I like the thought of having everything in tact as it left the factory... Any information would be greatly appreciated. I will post some pictures soon but If anyone is interested I may consider selling.

I had a 1972 Standard 13' Red dot hull which was owned by a fire dept. It was blue inside with a 20" transom with the sink splash well in the back. After that year they were tan inside. The only drawback with the post 1971 models is they didn't come standard with oar lock holders which made them row pretty good with a light engine on the back.
Check the stencil # on your transom to make sure what year it is.
1971 models run from 2A 5601 to 2A 7800
1972 models run from 2A 7801 to 2B 000
1973 models run from 2B 001 to 2B 2700
I have a beat up old 1968? 13 that I use to get to my mooring. I might be interested in yours. What state are you in? Let see those pictures.

Thanks for the response Tom. I am in North Carolina. I will check those numbers - all I saw when looking at it initially was that the last two were 72. I will post pictures asap, let me know if you want any specific areas photographed.

The stensil #s I posted were the hull #s on the inside of the hull in front of the engine, Yours may be when then started the 12 digit # on the outside of the hull on a metal tag. The 72 on the end of your #s is the year.

Your hull is probably a twin to the one I owned. Check my personal page and you can see my 1972 and 1968 side by side.

I just caught that he has a 20" transom and tan interior. He must have one of the first ones after they changed.

Tom,

Yes, it would be nice to have his HIN and/or Stencil number so we know what year he has for sure.

The first Tan interiors on the 13 were built in late 1972 (1172) as 1973 year models.

May not even have an HIN but most likely it would be embedded on the outside of the transom if it does have one.
