I wondering if I could get some thoughts on the mounting of my 2014 Mercury Big Foot 9.9 on my 1987 22 Outrage Cuddy with a 2003 Optimax 225. I have a Garlick motor mount for the motor, but expect that a transom mount is probably a better way to go. Should I transom mount? If so, port or starboard side? Starboard has steering cables in the way. Is there a transom cover to protect the gelcoat from the kicker mount and clamps? Would appreciate any advice I might get. Bill
I mounted my 8 hp Tohatsu to the port side directly to the transom of my 1989 Outrage 18. The bad news is the transom was about 1 / 16 of an inch too thick. So I took the clamp disks off and grinded the high spots on the motor bracket. Then I hammered the washer like disks to make them flat and reinstalled them which gave me enough clearance to fit over the transom. Works great. You should mount your engine to the transom if at all possible.
