Hello, I have a late 1960's 13' with the front and back thwart seats. I have a mahogany set which I keep in good condition, but also have a marine grade painted set which I usually have on the boat while fishing etc. I don't want to ruin the mahogany set, but I've been thinking about taking the other set and trying to add to the bottom of them to make a gear box type seat. I'd try to hinge the top so you could flip up/ down and store life jackets, and other gear.

My question is, has anyone done this before or seen it done? I've done some searches to try to find plans or pictures but coming up with nothing. Or is there a better way to go about adding this storage? Since it's a small boat and we frequently fish 3-4 people on it, looking for any good solutions.

Any help would be incredibly appreciated. Thanks!
