I am looking at buying a 1970 (?) 16 ft Currituck with a 1976 (?) 85 HP Johnson. I have a 2008 90 HP Yamaha 4 stroke that I plan on repowering it with. My question is, will this motor be to heavy for the boat and make it sit odd it the water and how can i expect it to handle.

Thanks for any info anyone can provide on this question and the boat in general.

No response? Someone has to have some idea about this. Another question.. Boat is in fair to good shape, great trailer, does $5000 sound like a fair price on this boat? remember i am taking the old motor that does still run off the boat.

Chief

I believe the older hulls were rated for 300-330 lbs (someone please correct me if I am wrong) It looks like the Yamaha weighs about 370 lbs?? I have a 115 Johnson 2stroke on my currituck (now a nauset) and it weighs just over 300 lbs

The weight of the Johnson 85 is about 300 lbs, the 90 Yamaha is about 370 lbs. The Yamaha is at the high end of what people want to hang off the back but the Johnson is no lightweight. I doubt the extra weight would make a substantial difference.

I guess I'd want to know how the boat floats before I added any weight to the back. Actually, I'd want to see how it floats before I bought it.

If the boat is fair to good $5000 is more than I'd pay for it. Then again prices for Whalers seem to be high right now, sometimes absurd.
