Hi All I'm in the process of restoring a 1978 sport and converting to a SS. I have built all new wood to the SS spec's and will be replacing the outboard as well. My question is the control cables that will be replaced measure in at about 9.5', I can find 9' and 10' but not 9.5. What have others used for this? New engine Merc. 60HP with side mount controls. Thanks
(changed abbreviated year to full 4 digit year for clarification)

Berger, I found this article http://www.whalercentral.com/forum/vi...ost_107175 helpful - and I'm targeting 9' cables because of it.
Check jamesgt727's post. He has a jackplate setup that prevented 9'. I still have a few weeks before install, so if you could post with your results, that would be appreciated.

I'd go with 10' if you are installing seats and console in original positions.

The original post references control cables - but this points to steering cables. The control cables will be shorter than the steering cable.

Jamesgt727, your post referenced above mentioned that your interior was set forward 9" AND you have a setback of 4" because of the jackplate - and you went with a 10'. Are you now thinking that was too short for your application? That's over a foot difference than those that have the interior mounted normally and have standard transom hung outboard. Can you clarify why the change to a 10' suggestion?

Your steering cable was likely a Morse and is an original length. Morse use to only sell cables in half foot lengths to the factory and those 6 inches make a big difference how it lays if everything is mounted in the original location. Suggest you get one from a dealer. Good luck!

This is about control cables, not steering cables.
