I am putting the boat back together and I noticed previously installed marine mahogany has been collecting mold/mildew. The wood was out of the weather in the cuddy cabin so I never bothered treating or painting it. My property is in among the trees and even some of my tung oiled teak picked up some spotting. Any particular brand of paint recommended? Should I just get some oil based paint and add a mildewicide? I want to paint and install. Looks do not matter it is behind cabinetry. Thanks.

Make sure the wood is dried before painting or treating.
Light sanding should bring the surface back.
You can paint accordingly to your marine supplier's recommendations.
I have used clear epoxy with success in sealing my Teaks and Mahoganies.

No paint will protect a surface from the spores and pollens in the air. Wooded area atmospheres are particularly laden with mildew producing products. To avoid mildew the best solution is to avoid storing your boat in wooded areas. A building would help a great deal but otherwise parking in the sunniest spot on your property may provide some relief.

Sunlight is a good mildew protector. Unfortunately sunlight is hard on our boats.
