Hi everyone I am new to the site and looking for some information regarding the 240 Outrage. I have been around whalers all my life and my family (father and grandfather) has owned several including (2) Montauk 17's, 20 Outrage, 25 Outrage whaler drive, 25 full cabin, 27 offshore.
I currently have one of the 17 Montauks. My family is growing and i have a wife and three small children and am looking to upgrade to a larger boat. I have my eyes on a 2003 240 outrage powered by a single 225 optimax. While i would prefer twins i think i can live with the single for a few more years till i can manage a repower.
My question mainly lies with the ride quality as i haven't ridden in any large whalers newer than a 1994 model. I would assume the newer outrages with 22 deg deadrise at the transom would afford a much nicer ride than those late 80's and early 90's designs. What kind of ride can i expect in the 240 in a 2-3' gulf of mexico chop? Also what kind of fuel range could I expect with the single 225.
