Sealing wood/repairing underside of boat deck

Member Posts: 1675 Comments: 0 Joined: 03/31/13	I am finally putting the 1979 21ft Revenge back together. I removed a couple of sections of the deck. One over the fish locker and the other by the fuel fill area where I replaced the fuel fill and vent hose. The decks are in fine shape with no structural issues. However, a couple of spots pealing on the underside and a couple of gouges where my shims, when removing the deck, knocked the coating off the underside . CPES. http://www.smithandcompany.org/CPES/.org/CPES/ Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealant which is not a hrd curing epoxy but a sealant that will protect the wood, stays flexible (same as wood) and is a great base or finish coat for anything you want to do to the wood. Widely used in classic wooden boat restoration and or buildings to keep the same propertyies of the original wood but protect it from water infiltration. Available at many good marine suppliers. Do you think your clear epoxy penetrating sealant would be a superior product? I do not plan on pulling up the deck for a good long time after this. The underside of the deck is in great shape aside from a scrape here and there and a wood plug from the original plywood that let go. No rot/decay whatsoever. Surprisingly, feeling underneath the deck covering the fuel tank (as far as I can reach dragging rags for cleaning the chambers) no decay there either.
