The last 3 is not a 3.
It is an 8 as in A686

You are also missing the letter K or L in your HIN after the BWC (most likely it is L)
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=101

All HIN's are 12 characters in length with NO spaces.
So, you have:
BWCL1633A686
A6 means it was built in January of 1986
86 means it is a 1986 year model

See our info we have on our site:
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...icle_id=61

Yeah, it was a typo.

Thing is, the only thing on plate is 1633A686.

I will post a photo of the plate on my personal page.

Thanks

The other characters have simply faded away in the sun and weather. That is typical.

Those numbers and letters are there.
You just can't see them.

http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=103

I have mentioned many times on this site, get yourself a magnifying glass and a flashlight and look at the HIN tag from all directions.
You may see the faint letters. (maybe not)

All HIN numbers have 12 characters with no spaces and they all start with BWC which stands for Boston Whaler Corporation.

Tried that just now. No traces I can see. I will bow to your guys expertise on this.
I didn't have the time to look through all forums with references to HIN # to see how many times
you said that:)

So was the "BWCL" not stamped just painted (green like i've seen on other plates)?

Yes, some letters like the BWC were Silk Screened on.

Other letters were like the "M" in the Model Year Format.

Some letters were however stamped in and those are the ones that will not fade but could get worn out or corroded over the years.

Talked to Chick Bennett at Whaler and he gave me all the specifics.

Called Janis at "Magic Brush" and they are going to make me a plate out of
SS with the letters and numbers lazer etched and they will be black.

Great.

Glad Chuck confirmed those numbers for us.

Looks like I was right with the "L".

Now you know where you fit in on this list.
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=101

Looks like your boat comes right before Hewlettk1 in the above list.
We can also tell that his hull sat on the factory lot for awhile longer as you have a higher stencil number but lower HIN number.
That happened back in those days.

Hewlettk1 hull was actually made before yours but did not receive the HIN number until it was shipped out in "F" June, where yours was shipped out in January as also verified by the "A6" in the number and confirmed by Chuck.

Super Sporter and wlagarde,
Once you get your replacement HIN plates, will you send us a photo so we can add it to our HIN plates article?

The reproduction HIN plate came today. It's made from aluminum instead of stainless steel but thats fine from my perspective as thats how the original was. Also, all of the numbers are silk-screened instead of some stamped and some silk screened like the original one was. It looks great. I added a picture of it installed at the bottom of my personal page.

Magic Brush did an outstanding job - $16.00 + $1.00 S&H.

Your boat does justice to the new HIN plate.

And WOW, what a deal from Magic Brush. I don't need new HIN plates but at that price I migh just order a couple!

Yes - Magic Brush does great work. They also did the reproduction Boston Whaler decals for my boat.

Related to this, Garzon Studios in GA did the reproduction decals for my outboard when I upped the hp from 40 to 50. They do outstanding work as well.
