So I just repowered w/a Yam F70 [not yet installed], and this boat is a converted 1987 SuperSport that never had the thru-deck opening for the fuel line routed thru the rig tunnel.

1. Haven't actually seen what the standard location for the thru deck opening is on a Montauk, but my presumption is that it would have been aft of the tank, close to the tank ??

2. If that's correct, what reason might have influenced placement behind rather than in front of tank [other than maybe it being in the way of the pilots big feet]?

Planning to install a leaning post/seat, so I need to factor out how far back from the console to set the thru deck opening, after accounting for seat base position and tank dimension under seat.

Thanks for your input,
Joe

Sounds like you're in a unique position to put the penetration where it best suits you.. the owner with the big feet. Take advantage and put it where you think it should go. At least that's what I'd do.

Yes Chris, it's kind of cool laying it all out just for me, but at the same time I don't want to have any 'what was I thinking moments' next month..
BTW: I just noticed this thread is out of place in "Engines"; I guess I'll wait for JK to move it...

Take a look at the members personal pages for the Montauk 17.
You should be able to see the placement of the fuel line opening.

Here is the first one I looked at and the mats and tanks are removed.

Here is another with a single tank and the fuel line opening.

I made the thru deck a 2-1/2" long x 1-1/4" wide at about 26" ahead of the front of the rear sump.
I'm guessing thats about 37" from the the back side of the console in a standard Montauk.
In my hull, w/a non OEM console, the back of console locates even with the V pattern of the Ramp/Gutter. Then the wheel projects 7" back from console face + I allowed 11" between wheel and front end of planned Lean post/seat + 18" for Lean Post overall footprint.
I'd post a picture, but not sure how at the moment- think I'll wait and do a personal page with entire rebuild series.

I too am converting a 1986 BW17 Super Sport to a custom center console configuration. I will have a OE RPS with two portable 6 gallon gasoline tanks installed underneath. I drilled my hawse-hole at circa 36 inches forward of the sump.

Your location of 26 inches forward of the rear sump is good, since you plan to use a single large capacity fuel tank and you will install a lean post. The measurements for the placement of your non-OE console look good, with the caveat that the console should not be fastened onto the smooth section of the deck (where non-skid is not present).
