1980 vs 1987 Outrage 22 hull

Can you tell me if there is a difference in the hull design of these two 22' Outrage models? Thank you.

Thank you Joe. I'm looking at a 22' Outrage and also a 20' Outrage both early 80's vintage. I was told the V20 became the 20 somewhere in the mid 80's and the hull form changed to increase the deadrise. I can't find any information that this same thing happened to the 22 during those years. I like the looks of the 22 and assume it will ride better than the 20.

Absolutely.
One change on the 22' is in 1989 which you didn't ask about but I will mention it.
The 1989 and newer 22' changed to a FULL splashwell instead of the sink type.

The above helped not having water in the cockpit from splashes over the stern.
I've had both an Outrage 20' and an Outrage 22'.

I was told the V20 became the 20 somewhere in the mid 80's and the hull form changed to increase the deadrise.
That is not quite right. The first generation Outrage 20 was called Outrage V20 initially and then just Outrage 20 up until 1985. The name change did not coincide with the change of hull.
Starting in 1986, the 20' hull was entirely new and essentially a shortened 22 foot hull.

Joe,
I bought the 22' outrage. It's a 1989 model with a 2003 Mercury 150. Have been underway twice and very impressed with the boat. Was concerned that the 150 was not enough HP but the boat topped out at 34.8 MPH on my GPS on flat water with two adults onboard. Will use it through the summer and consider moving up to a 175 or 200 HP in the Fall.
The forward cooler is pretty well shot and I have been trying to tell what size/capacity it is. It's an Igloo and the closest thing in the West Marine catalog is a 94 quart model with dimensions that won't fit in the existing mahogany deck "holders". Any idea what size cooler came with these boats? Thanks.

You should be getting more speed out of that Merc 150. Another contributor here has indicated his 22 Outrage does 46 MPH with a new Merc 150 EFI 4-stroke.
You will probably be able to approach those speeds with proper engine height setting, a better prop (such as a Mercury Enertia 17" pitch), and perhaps a check up on engine condition and hull bottom condition.
Not too long ago my local Mercury dealer repowered a Chicago Police 22' Guardian (a heavier boat) with a left-over Merc 2-stroke 150 EFI engine and Vengeance prop, and they said it was running a consistent 42 MPH top end.

150 HP on an Outrage 22 should good for a little over 40 MPH (on a Revenge 22 Walk-Through it will push it 40 MPH), so I think there is room for improvement like Larry says. You are not going to see 46 MPH however.

On my 1989 Outrage 22 I took the advice to raise the engine (150 Merc carburetor) two holes and it made a great difference in top end speed (4.5mph increase). On GPS with bimini up and two adults onboard I am now hitting 40 mph. The prop is a stainless 18 and my local dealer recommends no change. At 40mph I am topping out at 5800 rpms. Three questions: (1) Is it worth the effort and expense to change props to a 17? and....on a different subject;....(2) I am cleaning up teak on console doors. Big hatch door frame has heavy mildew/mold and I can't brighten it with standard cleaner/brightener kits..any ideas or should I be looking for new teak? And third, are you still selling your BW catalog collection?....I would be very interested in purchasing the 1989 Outrage catalog. Thanks.
