Anyone have t-tops for their montauk?
I have a 1997 Montauk.

Looking to put a t-top, any websites that make universal t-tops for whalers?
Links?

If you have a t-top, show a picture!

If you do a search (below the masthead or on the left sidebar) on "t top and Montauk" you will read about the concerns with the lack of backing material in the deck as well as the various companies that provide standard tops.

I have given some consideration into putting a T top on a Montauk. Like Phil said lack of backing is the issue for me. What I thought about doing was using a hole saw just slightly bigger than the mounting bracket at the bottom of the T top drilling through the top deck and foam down to the hull and filling the hole with fiberglass mat and resin to the top deck with the last layer having color added to it. I have done this for my thru hull transducer so I know it can be done. The trick in doing this type of glass work is it creates heat and heat sets the resin faster. So it's kind of a catch 22. You have to do it in slow buildup stages over a period of days, I found this out from experience. The first time I did it. I laid about 2 inches of glass and resin. And the thing start smoking I thought I was going catch the boat on fire. LOL... But it does make a very strong bond to the hull up the size of the foam to the deck. This would be my solution for having a good foundation for the T top. I would also make it out of aluminum to keep the weight factor down. The reason I want one is for jig polls that would also have supports off the top of the T top to the jig polls which also be tied with cable to the Stern and bow. The other reason I would like a T top is to have a place to mount a small radar unit.

I have a 2003 Montauk 170. It has a rather large T-Top on it, I will be taking it off soon. Mostly for storage issues. I will say that it changes the handling of the boat - a little top heavy, knocks off the top end a good bit and changes the feel of towing it on the highway. I've only got a V-6 truck, though. There are some pretty cool tops out there that are much lighter weight. Have a look at this. http://www.rnr-marine.com/Montauk-T-Topless.shtml

I believe I will be putting a mills bimini top on mine.

FYI, mine is listed for sale over in the parts section.

Keep in mind, the 2003 Montauk 170 is a completely different boat then a 1997 Montauk 17.

Phil,

Good point!

The windshield grab rails on the 2002-2007 Montauk-170 are too low for the Montauk-T-Topless, but the Montauk-Shadow fits these years with 6'1" of clearance.

Both tops fit the older 1970's through 2001 Montauk-17 and the newer 2008-2012 Montauk-170.

Also fits the 1999-2000 Montauk-19, 2007-2011 Montauk-190, 19xx-2001 Dauntless-18, 2002-2012 Dauntless-180, 1981-1990 Outrage-18, 1975-1990 Newport 17 and the Guardian boats when equipped with standard Outrage grab rail.s

Thank you, Sandy

I have never heard of this model.... Must be a typo?
The 19 foot Montauk 190 was not made until 2007.....

Joe,

Yes, you're right ... good to have some historians here!

Oddly enough, NADA lists the Montauk -19 from 1999 to 2000:
> http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/2000/...Whaler-Inc
then the Montauk-190 from 2001 to 2002:.
> http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/2002/...Whaler-Inc

In reality, I believe the only newer 19' Whaler until 2007 was the Nantucket 190 from 2004-2005: http://www.boat-for-sale.info/wp-cont...ler--7.jpg

We'll update our info.

Thanks for the input!

Thank you, Sandy

The TTopless looks like a great product. I own a 17' Montauk but I just bought a brand new Mills Console cover and also have a 4 year old Mills Bimini which would both be useless. I may try to sell them on ebay or something but I'm probably stuck with what I have for a while. If anyone is interested I live in MD but I travel between Boston and Richmond regularly.
